Renewal Of ESTA If You Are a Citizen of the Netherlands
If you travel frequently to the United States, perhaps for business or professional reasons, it is important to keep your ESTA updated. You do so by filling out and submitting your ESTA renewal application. The ESTA expires after two years. If it expires, you must update it before you can enter the United States.
There are other reasons to renew your ESTA besides it expiring. You must also renew if you have changed your name, citizenship, or gender, or if you have a new passport, since you last applied. If any of those circumstances apply to you, you will need to renew your ESTA by updating your authorization profile to reflect the changes. After you renew, your prior authorization becomes obsolete, and you will then be issued a new authorization number. You will use the new number when you travel to the United States.
The process for applying for an ESTA renewal is the same as applying for an initial ESTA. It requires all the same documents as a first-time application. Therefore, it is important to give yourself time to ensure that your ESTA is updated and that it has not expired before you visit the United States.
When Should You Renew Your ESTA
If any of the following conditions apply to you, you may apply for an ESTA renewal:
- You change your legal name
- You change the country of which you are a citizen
- You change your gender
- You receive a new passport
- Your answer to any of the yes/no questions on the ESTA application would now be different
- Your existing ESTA has expired (which automatically happens after two years)
